Questioning my faith as a christian?

I was raised southern baptist. I participated in my church up until my mid-late 20's I am 30 now and feel confused about christianity. It seems like the churches are very greedy and do very little to help others. Instead they get bigger and bigger. The more I read of the history of Christians and the persecution of people, slaughtering of people in the 1300's and all throughout history and how they today seem very 2 faced and hypocritical I am unsure. I believe in a loving and forgiving god but I am lost when it comes to Christianity.
