Will we get back together after a 3 year gap?

I was with my ex boyfriend for about 6 months in mid 2008. We were very happy but he was going through a divorce and he couldn't commit (which is understandable) and he disappeared. I recently sent him an email at the beginning of this year wishing him a happy new year. He replied and we have slowly started email contact again. I wanted to meet up and he agreed to a catch up drink, which was nice. Subsequently a couple of months later he has asked me for lunch at his place with a couple of his friends and he called me to discuss the possible dates for the lunch. Will we just be friends or can a relationship develop into something long term and intimate between us again?
