Why are there butch s?

I'm a straight 20 year old girl, who does not have any problem with s. I understand lipstick s that seems more natural to me. But why are there butch s? Sorry if my terminology isn't correct. If s are attracted to woman why do some of these woman try looking like men? They take testosterone or sometimes just dress like a tom boy. It just seems contradictory.
