What wouldve happened to Nicole or Paris if they had been caught fighting dogs??

First I think dogfighting is wrong and Vick should suffer the consequences, but is it fair when compared to the punishment of other athletes and celebrities. I understand that a message must be sent but prosecutors should be the ones making examples out of people not the judges and the sentences.
