Spooky things that go bang in the night?

Hi! I just woke in fright from my nap. I was fast asleep dreaming of people meeting through dating sites and all of a sudden I heard childrens footsteps running through my bedroom. Understandandably I woke with a fright. Thing is my dog looked around at the noise as well. What's going on? I've never experienced this.
